The Peace Seminar in Seoul, Korea kicked off with 21 participants from USA, 1 from Hong
Kong, 5 from Korea, 10 from Japan; in all, there were 37 participants and 6 staff. Each day was
spent together studying the peace issue between countries in Asia and the United States, seeking a peace resolution for our future. Wesley Foundation collaborated with Scranton Women’s Leadership Center by sponsoring 8 students from Japan who were attending for the first time. The universities represented were: Tokyo Woman’s Christian University, Aoyama Gakuin University, Seisen University, Keisen University, Kwansei Gakuin University and Hiroshima Jogakuin University.
アメリカから 21 名、香港から 1 名、韓国から 5 名、そして日本から 10 名（中国 1 名・
ケニヤ1名含む）の計37名の参加者が集まり始まった2012 Peace Seminar in Seoul, Korea。
Wesley Foundation は Scranton Women’s Leadership Center の Peace Seminar を支援し、
東京女子大学、青山学院大学、清泉女子大学、恵泉女子大学、関西学院大学、広島女子大
学から日本人学生（中国出身、ケニア出身の学生含む）の代表として 8 名を派遣致しまし
た。
JULY 26 (Thu)
~ Orientation ~
Participants at the orientation for 7-day-seminar. Everybody got excited about what to learn.
7日間に亘るプログラムの流れや目的について説明を受ける参加者たち。これから何が始まるのか楽しみです。
2012 Peace Seminar in Seoul, Koreaを主催したScranton Women's Leadership Centerのメンバーの方たちからのご挨拶。右は温かい言葉で参加者を歓迎してくださったキム・ヘソン事務総長、左は強いリーダシップとキュートな笑顔でプログラムの進行を務めてくださったミランさん。
Dr. Jong Nam Oh, Chair of the Board, Scranton Women's Leadership Center gave a short lecture on the Korean War. Dr. Oh was first Korean executive director of the International Monetary Fund. He also served the Korean government for 30 years, first with the Economic Planning Board and later with the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
理事長のオウ・ジョンナム博士からのご挨拶。オウ先生は以前、韓国人初としてのIMFの執行役員も務めた経験のある方で、30年韓国政府の経済企画と運営に携わってこられました。オリエンテーションでは第二次世界大戦後に勃発した朝鮮戦争について簡単な講義を開いてくださりました。当時、国民一人当たりの年間の所得はたったの80米ドルだったにもかかわらず、今や韓国の貿易レベルは世界のトップの一つに数えられるほど成長できたと、急速な経済発展を評価する一方、南北統一を目指した際に重視しなければならない北朝鮮との経済水準の大きな格差についても言及していました。オウ先生は日本語も流暢な方でしたので、「日本に留学しておられたのですか？」と尋ねたところ、「日本語は自分で学びました」と、独学でここまで話すことができる先生の語学能力の凄さに圧倒されました！
~ Dinner ~
We enjoy tasty dinner. Many Korean dishes were served. Thanks to buffet style dinner, we could pick up whatever we like. Spicy Korean noodle which is very popular in Japan now was also served.
宿泊先の食堂は広くてきれいでした:) ブッフェ式の食事なので毎回好きなものを選べる楽しさ。キムチもプルコギもおいしかったし、日本でも人気の辛ラーメンも自炊できるという、メニューのバリエーションの豊富さに感激。

～Opening / Getting to Know Each Other ～

Ice-breaking started by finding a new partner to sit next to each other. They had to meet for the first time at this seminar.
オープニングは初めて顔を合わせる相手を探し、パートナーになってお互いの自己紹介から始めました。名前、特技、この世で「これ」がなければ生きていけないものを3つ挙げるなど、それぞれの個性を数分で知ることのできるアイスブレーキングにみんな盛り上がりました！

~ Visiting the War Memorial of Korea ~
The second day started with our visit to the War museum. It provided a significant opportunity for participants to become aware of the context and background of the Korean War and the current relationship of North and South Korea. This history is not taught extensively and is relatively unknown in detail in Japan. Because the war between North and South continues even though an Armistice Agreement has been signed, there is no way to avoid the tension that is present between the two countries.
2日目の朝は戦争記念館への訪問。朝鮮戦争の歴史、背景や当時の状況を再現したフロアを歩きながら、多くのことを学んでいきました。日本の学校では、この戦争についての詳細はあまり触れられてこなかったので、私たちにとっては新しい知識となりました。日本は1945年の終戦を迎えて以来、紛争に巻き込まれることはありませんでした。しかし、隣国の朝鮮半島でこのような大きい戦争が3年間繰り広げられていたこと、そしてその争いは今でも続いており、現在は休戦状態にあるのだということを館内を歩き回りながら実感できました。
